1. How do I install a yahoo messenger skin?

   That really depends on what type of Yahoo messenger skin you downloaded. The Yahoo messenger skins come in two types from ModernMorph.com, zipped and executable. Zipped Yahoo messenger skins will have a (.zip) extension, and a executable Yahoo skin will have a (.exe) extension.

   If you downloaded a zipped Yahoo messenger skin then you will need some sort of extracting utility like WinRAR. Windows XP comes with a built in extracter. To install the zipped Yahoo messenger skin extract it to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Shared\Graphics. After the .ZIP is extracted, simply select it from your Yahoo Messenger by clicking on Messenger > Change Skin.

   Some users have had problems with an extra folder being extracted with the Yahoo messenger skin folder. This causes the Yahoo messenger skin not to show up in the skins list of your Yahoo messenger.

   To check this navagate to the "Graphics" folder using the path above. Once there you should see the stock Yahoo messenger skins (e.g. indiglo & maverick) along with the Yahoo messenger skin(s) you just extracted. Open the Yahoo messenger skin folder that is not working. If you just see another folder by the same name, then this is your problem. You will have to remove the inner folder and delete the outer folder. Then place the inner folder back into the "Graphics" folder.

   If you have downloaded a executable yahoo messenger skin then simply click and run it. Just follow the directions it gives you. Then select it from your Yahoo Messenger by clicking on Messenger > Change Skin.

   Some people have had problems opening the .exe file. They get a error saying that windows does not recognize the file. If this happens to you, make sure the file extension is (.exe) if not add it.

2. Will you make a Yahoo messenger skin for me?

   Well that depends. I no longer have the time to make requested skins. I can make them for a price but my time is short so I would have to charge enough to make it worth my while. It can take up to a week to make a Yahoo messenger skin so you can see how it would get costly. If the cost is not a problem to you then go ahead and contact me.

   Don't forget I wrote a Yahoo messenger skin tutorial. If I can't make you one maybe you can do it yourself.

3. Will a older skin work on a newer version of Yahoo messenger?

   Yes and no, at the time this was written Yahoo messenger version 8.0 is the highest or latest available. Any skin made for version 6.0, 7.0, or 7.5 will work just fine for 8.0. The only problem you may notice is some parts of the Yahoo messenger skin may not be skinned, but the majority will be skinned. Any Yahoo messenger skin made pre 6.0 will not work at all on higher versions.

4. How do I add a background image to the friends list like they do on the older Yahoo messenger skin versions?

   You can't. Yahoo removed that option on this version. I have heard some ideas on doing it with a seprate program and .dll's but I haven't seen it done yet and I really don't think its worth the trouble.

5. How do I remove the smiley icon on the top left corner of the Yahoo messenger skin?

   Simple open the .xml to the Yahoo messenger skin and find the line that reads.

   <position_name="caption_icon" indentx="5" indenty="6"/>

   Then change the number on the indenty from 6 to 40. The numbers from the indentx and indenty mark the position of the smiley. When you enter a large number in the indenty it moves the smiley down and under the Yahoo 6.0 messenger so its out of sight.

6. How do I change the title text? You know the part that reads "Yahoo Messenger".

   Goto: C:/Program Files/Yahoo!/Messenger/ Then scroll down almost to the bottom you will see a folder named "ymsgr" or "ymsgr.ini". Open this folder and you will see...

7. How do I change the .rgn files to alter the borders of a Yahoo messenger skin?

   First you want to make the .bmp borders the shape you want. Then update the .xml to match the size of your new .bmp borders. After both of those are changed and saved simply delete the .rgn file to the associated border(s). Refresh the Yahoo messenger skin and Yahoo will create a new .rgn file to match your .bmp border. You must do this everytime you change the shape and/or transparency of the .bmp border.
