Yahoo Avatars Firefox Friendly
June 29, 2005
When Yahoo first came out with its 6.0 version using avatars in april 2004 you could only customize them using Internet Explorer (I.E.). Later that year Mozilla released its first full version of Firefox. Since then Firefox has taken a huge share of the market away from I.E. In febuary Yahoo started to show its support by releasing a toolbar for Firefox. A month later Yahoo announced that they would make all of thier services including avatars available in both browsers, but no date was givin.
"Due to the explosive popularity of the Firefox browser, it has now been added to our suite of browsers to test our products against. All new products that Yahoo develops will be tested against Firefox," a Yahoo representative said.
Quietly Yahoo has updated its services. You can now customize your avatars in Firefox. This comes 3 months after Yahoo made the announcement. I for one applaude Yahoo for doing this. It is a smart move by Yahoo and great backing for Firefox and its users.
