A glass orb can be used for many graphics, interfaces, and website layouts. It is also very easy to make. Here is the way I make my glass orbs in Paint Shop Pro 9.

First create a new document 400x400px. Then Layers > New Raster Layer. Turn on your "Grid". View > Grid. I have my grid set at 5x5px. You can set it by View > Change Grid, Guide and Snap Properties. Turn the "Snap To Grid" on Ctrl+Shift+G.

Now select your "Selection Tool" set the "Selection Type" to "Circle". Also make sure "Anti-alias" is checked. Make a circle selection just smaller than the canvas size. Set your foreground color to "000000" and your background color to "404040". Now choose the "Foreground-Background" gradient and flood fill the circle selection.

Make a new layer Layers > New Raster Layer. With the "Selection Tool" set the "Selection Type" to "Ellipse". Make a small elliptical selection near the top of your circle. Then Selection > Modify > Feather Set the number of pixels to 30. Choose the "Fading-White" gradient and flood fill the elliptical selection.

Next is probably the hardest part but really its easy once you get used to the "Pen Tool". Select the "Pen Tool. Invert the "Fading-White" gradient. Near the bottom draw a curved line that matches the curve of the orb.

Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur set the radius to 15. Now just adjust the Opacity of the layer to about 32. Thats its pretty easy ehh more tutorials to come..
